A biker found himself in court after he was caught speeding while trying to escape a pair of would-be bike thieves.
Craig Weeden, 57, appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (October 12) after a camera caught him driving at 60mph on the 50mph A2 East Rochester Way Relief Road.
However, District Judge Lucy Corrin gave Weeden a rare absolute discharge as Weeden was being chased by two youths who were trying to steal his motorbike.
The incident took place at around 6.40pm on October 2, 2022, while Weeden was driving a Kawasaki motorbike.
Weeden only exceeded the speed limit to get away from the two youths, the court heard.
District Judge Corrin accepted that this was an emergency situation and that Weeden therefore had special reasons for speeding.
An absolute discharge is when a defendant is released from court without any further punishment.
