A popular Lidl store in Beckenham is set to close its doors for good.

The Lidl store located in Beckenham, Bromley, is set to permanently shut its doors this year because the lease for the store has come to an end.

The popular supermarket, located on the High Street, has received backlash on social media from local customers, with one labelling it as “beyond devastating”.

Lidl has not confirmed the date as to when the store will be permanently closed, however a spokesperson did say it will be closing “later this year”.

Despite this, Facebookers have suggested the store will be closing at the end of November, or the beginning of December.

A spokesperson for Lidl said that they are having “active discussions” about relocating the store to a nearby site.

“We will update the local community in due course”, the spokesperson added.

Lidl trades over 100 stores in London and within the M25 with requirements for more than one hundred more stores.

Plans suggest Lidl are looking for opportunities to expand the brand in shopping centres, high streets, and retail parks.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: “Whilst the lease on our current store in Beckenham has come to an end, we are having active discussions about relocating the store to a nearby site, which we will update the local community on in due course.”
