Last week saw the premature arrival of spring. Commentators heralded the annual wave of birds nesting and flowers blossoming with glee. But within the week spring was beating a retreat. Snow storms whipped across the borough, covering any evidence that winter was on the wane. By Saturday, anti-freeze and ice scrapers were more common than cuckoos or daffodils.
