A major road in Crystal Palace has temporarily closed for repairs due to a water leak.

The leak was discovered in Sylvan Road on September 11, forcing the road to partially close to traffic.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said an excavation and a permit are needed from the local authority to carry out the repair.

Some works began earlier today (September 15) which is expected to be completed early next week.

Thames Water apologises for any inconvenience this may cause for residents while repairs take place.

The full statement from Thames Water says: "We investigated reports of a water leak on Sylvan Road on Monday 11 September.

"Due to the location of the leak, an excavation and permit from the local authority is required to carry out the repair.

“The dig began earlier today and the work is expected to be completed early next week.

"During this time, part of Sylvan Road will be closed and we are sorry to residents for any inconvenience during this time."
