A man has died after being hit by a bus in Erith.

The incident happened in West Street at around 10.25pm yesterday (August 28).

Officers and London Ambulance Service crews attended and found a man injured.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination will be held in due course as police enquiries are ongoing to identify him.

Officers are also investigating reports that the man was involved in a fight immediately before being hit by a bus.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “An investigation is under way following the death of a man in Erith.

“Police were called at approximately 10.25pm on Monday, 28 August to reports of a man injured after being struck by a bus in West Road, Erith.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Work is ongoing to identify him.

“A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

“At this early stage officers are investigating reports that the man was involved in an altercation immediately prior to being struck by the bus.

“Enquiries into the circumstances continue.
