Two people have been arrested in Plumstead on suspicion of keeping a brothel and possessing counterfeit money.

On Monday, August 14 police executed a warrant at an address in Plumstead following reports of the property being used as a brothel.

Police said that neighbours were “elated” to see that officers had done something to intervene.

Inside the home, police found a large collection of knives, numerous mobile phones and counterfeit money.

Poor living conditions and other evidence led police to believe that the property was indeed being used as a brothel.

One male was arrested on suspicion of keeping a brothel for prostitution and another male was arrested on suspicion of possession of counterfeit notes.

The females found inside of the address were safeguarded by the officers and partnership agencies and have been offered the necessary support.

All occupants were removed from the address and Super Intendant De Haan served a closure notice.

According to police, a full closure order will be sought from the court.
