An increased police presence is expected in Bexleyheath Broadway after a potential threat of stores being targeted.

A statement issued by Bexleyheath Broadway states that stores could be targeted by “gangs of youths” who intend to steal.

It adds that they are targeting specific towns and Bexleyheath has been listed for Saturday (August 12).

It has chosen to treat the potential threats “seriously” and will be increasing the number of guards within the centre by ensuring that one is positioned at each main entrance.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police confirmed that it is aware of the social media speculation.

There will be a heightened police presence in the area and anyone who does participate in criminal activity will be dealt with by officers.

As a result, a section 35 dispersal order will be in place from 4pm today (August 11) until August 13 at 3.59pm.

This gives officers the power to exclude people from a specific area and anyone who fails to comply can be arrested.
