A dad-of-two from Sidcup is using his cleaning business to help people in the community for free.
Ben Saunders began his business Flawless Cleaning eight years ago, when he would often carry out cleans for friends and family.
The 31-year-old set up a YouTube channel dedicated to pressure washing and garden cleaning during the Covid lockdown and highlighted the common occurrence of people being “ripped off” by door knockers.
As part of the business, Ben offers a special service called Flawless Blessings – a service where people from Sidcup can nominate others to receive a free cleaning session.
Ben told the News Shopper: “I started a YouTube channel to show how in depth I go with my cleans, and I got quite a good response.
“Then I filmed cleaning my nan's patio which showed her sitting at the window, on a chair and absolutely loving life, just watching the dirt get washed away.
“My grandad passed away and she enjoyed the company, so it hit home a little and I realised I wanted to help other people, so I messaged my friends to ask if their grandparents needed their patio cleaned.”
With the help of his dad, Paul, Ben takes in regular nominations from people across Sidcup and the surrounding area and cleans the gardens and patios of people who may need a little help, or even just someone to spend the day with.
Winners of the Flawless Blessing service will receive a 'golden ticket' which can be exchanged for a flawless cleaning service from Ben and Paul
Ben added: “My dad joined me this year and also gives up his time and helps me with the cleans.
"We get nominations from the community, seniors, schools, and people that are struggling.
“I have done 53 free cleans so far, and I hope to keep pushing it and help other people in need.”
Ben carries out 12 hours of cleaning per day then spends his evenings editing videos for his YouTube channel – as well as spending his time with his two children.
Ben said: “I usually do one or two free cleans a week.
“I have a young family, so I am trying to build a base for them, but I make sure to spend time with all of my family in the evenings.
“I have always been fully booked with work and I love my job, but I have definitely found a new meaning with the free cleans.”
Ben says there is no criteria for nominations, but he enjoys carrying out cleans for the elderly, or people who can’t manage to clean themselves.
So far, he has cleaned community centres, elderly people’s houses, playgrounds and schools – all for free.
He added: “I spent three hours after the clean with my first customer just chatting, but she sadly passed away last month.
“Her family reached out to me and offered me to come to the wake, they said I really made an impact on her life.
“It’s insane that it is making a difference.”
