Lewisham Council has built 56 new homes in a “100 per cent affordable” housing development in Deptford.

The project is part of 1 Creekside, an affordable housing development in the Deptford area offering social and shared ownership homes – the first to be delivered by Lewisham Council.

The scheme includes 35 shared ownership homes to help people get on the property ladder, along with 22 social homes for families on the waiting list for housing, in a bid to tackle the housing crisis.

The development comes after Lewisham Council acquired the land in 2020.

Shared ownership offers prospective residents the chance to purchase an initial share of the property, ranging between 25 to 75 per cent, while paying rent on the remaining share.

The scheme is aimed at residents who are trying to get onto the property ladder, with priority given to people already living and working in Lewisham.

The 22 social homes have been rented out to families who are on the council’s housing waiting list, helping families out of temporary or overcrowded accommodation.

Currently over 10,000 families are on the housing waiting list, and in a bid to tackle the housing crisis Lewisham Council is working to deliver social housing through the Building for Lewisham Programme.

One of the recent visitors to the new development was Mayor of Lewisham Damien Egan, who visited the new development on Tuesday (June 20).

Mr Egan said: “I’m pleased we’ve been able to deliver a high-quality, 100% genuinely affordable housing development that includes homes for families on our housing waiting list and for local people who have been struggling to get onto the housing ladder.

“Tackling the housing crisis requires innovative solutions that meet the different needs of our residents and thanks to the council’s acquisition of this project, we’ve been able to do just that.”
