A stolen car smashed into a traffic light after a police chase during the early hours in Bexley.
At around 3.35am this morning (June 16), police officers on patrol noticed a car that had just been reported stolen from Welling.
The driver allegedly failed to stop the vehicle and a police chase began.
The car soon crashed into a traffic light on Bexleyheath Broadway.
The driver got out and fled the scene but was located and arrested shortly after on suspicion of theft and failing to stop.
No major injuries were caused by the crash.
Road closures were put in place while the scene was cleared and dealt with.
Investigations into incident are ongoing.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At approximately 3.35am on Friday, 16 June officers on patrol spotted a car that had been reported as stolen moments earlier from an address in Welling.
“The car failed to stop for police and a pursuit was initiated.
“A short while later the car was in collision with a traffic light in Bexleyheath Broadway.
“The driver decamped but was located a short distance away and arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and theft of a motor vehicle.
“He was taken into custody.
“No reports of any significant injuries.
“Road closures were put in place while the scene was dealt with.
“Enquiries into the circumstances continue.”
