A man has died after being stabbed in Southwark and police have arrested a man on suspicion of his murder.

Police were called to Southampton Way at around 1.30am this morning (Friday, June 16) near to the junction of Coleman Way after receiving reports of a stabbing.

On arrival, officers found a man in his 40s with stab wounds.

The man died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

One man, aged in his 20s, was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody where he will be questioned.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “A murder investigation is under way following a stabbing in Southwark.

“Police were called at 01:31hrs on Friday, 16 June to Southampton Way, near to the junction of Coleman Way, SE5, following reports that a man had been stabbed.

“On arrival, officers located a man, aged in his 40s, suffering with stab injuries.

“Despite treatment from medical professionals, the man sadly died at the scene.

“His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. 

“One man, aged in his 20s was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder.

“He remains in custody where he will be questioned. Enquiries are ongoing.
