New data obtained by News Shopper has revealed the areas in Greenwich with the highest and lowest numbers of fly-tipping in 2022.

A Freedom of Information request submitted to the Royal Borough of Greenwich asked for the “areas in Greenwich with the highest fly-tipping reports received” in the year of 2022.

Data from the FOI revealed that five areas had the highest numbers of reported fly-tips in 2022, which were:

Thamesmead Moorings

Abbey Wood

Woolwich Common

Plumstead

East Greenwich

A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Greenwich said that the council was committed to tackling fly tipping in the borough and continue to reduce the number of fly tipping cases.

The full statement said: “The Council is committed to tackling fly-tipping across Royal Greenwich. We engage with residents in targeted areas to educate them on how to dispose of waste properly and enforce where we can.

“Fly-tipping was reduced by 12.75% from 21/22 to 22/23 and the Council will continue to tackle fly tipping to reduce this figure.

“We urge anyone wanting to dispose of waste to use the Council’s bulky waste collection service, or take their waste to our Reuse and Recycling Centre in Nathan Way for free, if they want to be assured that their rubbish will not be illegally dumped.

“We would encourage anyone who spots fly-tipping to report it and we will ensure it is removed.”
