A shocking video shows smoke pluming out of the top window of a flat block in Thamesmead amid a fire.

The building is located on Yarnton Way Westbound between Hartslock Drive and A2041 Harrow Manor Way.

Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to the flat fire at 9.24am on May 24.

Most of a four-roomed flat on the 12th floor of a 13-storey block of flats was damaged by the fire.

Yarnton Way was blocked due to the incident.

Ten people and a cat from neighbouring flats were led to safety by fire crews but nobody was injured.

Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith, Bexley and East Greenwich fire stations brought the fire under control by 10.53am.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Yarnton Way in Thamesmead.

“Most of a four-roomed flat on the 12th floor of a 13-storey block of flats was damaged by the fire.

“Ten people from neighbouring flats and a cat were led to safety by fire crews. There were no injuries reported.

“The Brigade was called at 0924 and the fire was under control by 1053. Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith, Bexley and East Greenwich fire stations were in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.
