A woman from Sidcup has been left feeling frustrated after she received a parking charge notice for parking on a road which she has claimed does not have clearly marked bays.

Lynne Crilly got the fine after parking in Black Horse Road in Sidcup.

She had been visiting the chemist for around 10 minutes, when she received a £50 parking charge on returning to her car.

However, she has claimed that the current parking bays on the road are “not clearly” marked on the road for her to have been able to know that she was incorrectly parked.

The 57-year-old said: “When you pull into the road, there are no road markings.

“But when you do park there, especially if there's other cars, it’s always the last car as you walk into the road that gets the ticket.

“You really can’t see any markings because the lines are so faint.”

Lynne appealed the PCN with Bexley Council after claiming that another business in the area informed her that this was a regular occurrence for cars who park in the same area she had parked.

Her appeal was declined and she paid the £50 parking charge, but she says more needs to be done to “clearly” signpost where the parking bays are on the road itself, to avoid similar situations happening again.

Lynne said: “I feel so infuriated that they're not spending money on re-marking the roads, but they’re giving out these parking tickets.

“£50 is a lot of money in these times with household bills going up so much.

“My charge has been paid now, it’s over and done with.

“But if they can re-mark the lines so people are fully aware that they're not allowed to park there, It would just stop another 10 people getting a parking fine.

“That's all that matters really.”

A spokesperson for Bexley Council has said that the case file remains closed after it was reviewed by the parking team and that there is “no statutory provision” for review.

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: “This penalty charge was issued as it was parked in a restricted parking zone during the restricted period.

“The motorist believed they were given a PCN for parking incorrectly in a bay - this was not the case.

“The Restricted Parking Zone requires only for signs to be placed at the entrance and exit points to the zone.

“Our Parking Team have carried out a review and they are satisfied that the PCN was issued correctly.

“The penalty charge case file remains closed, and there is no statutory provision for further review.”
