Lewisham High Street has changed considerably in the last decade, with buildings being demolished, businesses closing and rebranding and some new buildings being built.

Today we’ve rounded up five of the major changes that Lewisham High Street has had in the last 15 years according to image comparisons taken from Google Street View.

Gamestation

Number 212 Lewisham High Street was once occupied by Gamestation, first founded in 1993 selling video games.

In September 2012 all Gamestation stores were rebranded to Game.

The Lewisham Store was rebranded to Game in 2012 before it disappeared sometime between April 2018 and April 2019 according to Google Street View.

The building currently stands vacant as of the latest street view image taken from February 2023.

Made with Flourish

Number 227 Lewisham High Street was formerly occupied by Acorn estate agents and TFC food stores in June 2008.

The Acorn estate agents eventually closed sometime between May 2012 and September 2014 and the TFC closed between September 2017 and May 2018 according to Google Street View.

The buildings were demolished by April 2019 and replaced with a newly built Travelodge by June 2022.

The Travelodge still stands there today alongside the newly added Taco Bell which opened earlier this year.

Number 261 Lewisham High Street was formerly the home of Ladywell Leisure Centre when it was first built in 1965.

Sometime between 2014 and 2016, temporary new residential apartments were built including 24 homes and 4 ground-floor retail units.

The buildings were then run by Meanwhile Space from 2016 to 2021, although it is not clear if the building has been used since then.

The Plantbase Store

Made with Flourish

The old buildings between numbers 262-274 Lewisham High Street on the corner of the junction with Whitburn Road were demolished back in 2007.

Construction work eventually began of the new building and the site was eventually completed in 2011.

The building was acquired by Tesco which opened a store sometime between May 2012 and May 2016 according to street view images.

By May 2017 Tesco had closed down and in April 2021 The Plantbase Store opened a new branch there.
