If you were given the opportunity to take charge of your south east London borough, there are probably a million and one things that you would want to change.

So, we posed the question on our Facebook page "If you were in charge, what would you do first in south east London?" and received almost 300 responses.

From housing issues to ULEZ to homelessness, News Shopper readers had something to say about what they would do if they ruled south east London.

Tania Baird said: "Scrap ULEZ and use the cameras for proper policing."

Phil Ade added: "Scrap ULEZ - it's as simple as that!"

Steve Crook said: "Get rid of the ULEZ cameras and the cycle lanes re-routed through parks and recreation areas via quieter back streets.

"Restore social housing instead of affordable housing which leaves people choosing between food or heating if they can afford either."

Connor Parsfield added a few more points to the mix.

He said: "It’s not one thing but crime, ULEZ and housing."

Other readers were more focused on issues affecting travel in the area.

Paul Mills said: "Make it mandatory for cyclists to have insurance."

Lisa M Parsons added: "More police on our roads.

"When I was younger you always found police doing the rounds, now you don't see any."

"I’ve been up Lewisham all weekend it’s been a while since I was last up and I can’t believe the amount high rise blocks of flats going up.

She said: "Hold a referendum for areas such as Bromley, Erith, Bexleyheath etc to become part of Kent again so there is no ULEZ."

Amanda Ralph said: "Get the potholes sorted."

Melinda Mack added: "Make sure no one was homeless.

"No one should be sleeping in the streets in 2023."
