Since his emergence in the early sixties, many artists have fallen under the spell of the music of Bob Dylan.

The latest in this long line is Julie Felix, whose double CD Starry Eyed & Laughing is the culmination of many years preparation in which Julie travelled to seven recording studios while recruiting a host of guest musicians to help assemble the tracks for her pet project.

Julie scores highly with songs from the lesser known, more personal areas of the Dylan catalogue, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll for example, featuring the guitar of Martin Carthy and a finely-judged string arrangement.

Every Grain of Sand and Gates of Eden also benefit from sympathetic arrangements - whether simple and atmospheric or full-blown brass, strings and kitchen sink dramatics.

Special mention must go to Guy Fletcher and Edd Frost, the rhythm section from Little Johnny England, to the mandolin of Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones and to John Renbourn and Danny Thompson from Pentangle

Overall, this is a carefully chosen and faultlessly performed collection; a loving tribute from a willing apprentice to the master sorcerer of songwriting.
