A man has been arrested after shots were reportedly fired on a Lewisham street yesterday evening.

Police were called to Nelgarde Road at 6.50pm on Thursday (April 20) after reports that gunshots had been heard in the area.

A man was found with minor injuries which they believe had been caused by broken glass.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. 

Police then searched the area with the help of the National Police Air Service.

A man in his early 30s was found and arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and Class A drugs.

He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

Police are now appealing for information from anyone who knows more about the incident – requesting they call via 101 quoting reference CAD 6499/20Apr.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 6.51pm yesterday (20 April) to reports of an incident on Catford Road, SE6.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager.

“We treated one person at the scene before taking them to hospital.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at about 6.50pm on Thursday, 20 April to a residential address on Nelgarde Road, SE6 following reports of a firearm discharge.

“Officers attended and found a man with minor injuries, believed to have been caused by broken glass.

“A search of the area was carried out with the assistance of the National Police Air Service.

“A man, aged in his early 30s, has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and Class A drugs.

“He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

“A crime scene is in place.

“Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference CAD 6499/20Apr.”
