There has been 16 Covid-19 deaths recorded over the latest weekly period across south east London.

Covid-19 has dropped out of the top five leading causes of death in England and Wales for the first time since the start of the pandemic, figures show.

Coronavirus was recorded as the main cause of death for 22,454 people in 2022, or 3.9 per cent of all deaths registered, making it the sixth leading cause overall.

In both 2020 and 2021 Covid-19 was the leading cause of death, with 73,766 deaths (12.1 per cent of the total) and 67,350 (11.5 per cent) respectively.

A total of 187,874 deaths were recorded throughout England by March 23.

Bexley

There were seven more coronavirus deaths recorded over the latest weekly period in Bexley.

A total of 860 people had died in the area by March 23 – up from 853 on the week before.

The weekly figures now include anyone whose death certificate – registered up to 14 days before April 6 (Thursday) – mentions Covid-19 as one of the causes.

There were seven more coronavirus deaths recorded over the latest weekly period in Bromley.

A total of 949 people had died in the area by March 23 – up from 942 on the week before.

The weekly figures now include anyone whose death certificate – registered up to 14 days before April 6 (Thursday) – mentions Covid-19 as one of the causes.

Greenwich

There were no more coronavirus deaths recorded over the latest weekly period in Greenwich.

A total of 660 people had died in the area by March 23 – which was unchanged from on the week before.

The weekly figures now include anyone whose death certificate – registered up to 14 days before April 6 (Thursday) – mentions Covid-19 as one of the causes.

Lewisham

There were two more coronavirus deaths recorded over the latest weekly period in Lewisham.

A total of 754 people had died in the area by March 23 – up from 752 on the week before.

The weekly figures now include anyone whose death certificate – registered up to 14 days before April 6 (Thursday).
