London Fire Brigade has released further details following a fire at a care home in Bexleyheath.

Four people have been taken to hospital after the blaze - which started at a hairdressers inside Parkview care home on Woolwich Road.

Officers, London Ambulance Service crews and London Fire Brigade were called to the scene at 11.30am today (March 30).

The brigade describes the fire as small but reported heavy smoke logging on the ground floor of the care home.

Around 30 people had left the building before the arrival of the brigade.

Four people were rescued from the building by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and a further three people were led to safety.

Five people were treated for smoke inhalation on scene, with four of them being taken to hospital.

Crews from Sidcup, Eltham, Bexley, East Greenwich and surrounding fire stations were called to the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and enquiries into the incident “remain ongoing”.

A road closure has been put in place surrounding the care home.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a property on Woolwich Road in Bexleyheath.

“A small fire occurred in a hairdressers inside a care home.

“Heavy smoke logging was reported on the ground floor.

“Four people were rescued from the building by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

“Three further people were led to safety by firefighters.

“Five people have been treated for smoke inhalation with four people taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

“Road closures remain in place and the public are asked to avoid the area where possible.

“The Brigade was called at 11.26am and the fire was under control by 1.02pm.

“Crews from Sidcup, Eltham, Bexley, East Greenwich and surrounding fire stations were at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is unknown at the time.”
