If you're a keen runner you may have recently been preparing to take on the annual London landmark half marathon ahead of its return. 

The much-loved event sees thousands head down to the capital to race across the streets of London as they take in its historical sites. 

With 13.1 miles to complete, the London landmarks half marathon is organised by baby charity Tommy's.

This year it is taking place on Sunday, April 2 with a brand new route in the heart of London as Tommy's shares they aim to champion "the grand, the quirky, and the hidden".

But ahead of the event, there are things that runners and the public alike need to be aware of. 

From start time, road closures, the route and even how to check your results, well you are in luck as we have everything you need to know.

London Landmarks half marathon 2023 start time

Like many running events, the half marathon will have start times across nine waves. 

The nine waves are lightning, cheetah, Mexican, chocolate, sunshine, rainbow, diamond, royal, and wheelchair. 

The first wave kicks off at 9.15am with the last at 10.50am, to find your exact time you can head to the website here. 

London Landmarks half marathon 2023 route

This year's brand-new route will start at Pall Mall where runners will run through the streets of London. 

Along their way, they will pass landmarks including St Paul's Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, Monument and the Tower of London.

The half marathon will finish at Whitehall just outside Downing Street and will give runners the chance to see Big Ben and the London Eye.

London Landmarks half marathon 2023 road closures

A number of roads will be closed for some time during the race on Sunday to make way for runners. 

Altogether there are ten sectors of the marathon, Pall Mall will be closed from 5am until 4.05pm, along with surrounding roads. 

The area from Pall Mall East to the intersection at the Strand and Lancaster Place will be shut off to the public from 2.30am to 5.50pm. 

However, surrounding areas will be accessible to locals. 

The race's fourth sector, Holborn will be shut from 7am until 2.30pm and covers from Somerset House to Fleet Street. 

The largest sector to be close is the entire area of Farringdon Street, London Wall, Gracechurch Street, and Upper Thames Street from 6.30am until 3.20pm.

You will not be able to access any areas from Tower Hill Station along the river bank of Southwark Brdige from 7.30am until 3.20pm. 

Plus, everything between Southwark Bridge's north side and Westminster Bridge's north side will be closed from 7.30am to 4.20pm. 

Westminster Bridge will be closed from 9am to 4.20pm to make way for runners. 

Whilst the final stretch of Westminster around Dowing Street will be closed from 4.30am to 6.50pm.
