A HOSPITAL is to reopen in a £14.6m scheme.

Eltham and Mottingham Cottage Hospital in Passey Place, Eltham, will be redeveloped and given a new name by Greenwich PCT.

And the Department of Health confirmed on June 10 that it would provide £4.6m towards the scheme with the rest coming from Greenwich PCT.

Confirmation of the funding came in an announcement of a national £250m community hospital programme by Health Minister Ben Bradshaw.

Greenwich PCT is still deciding how much space is required and will be consulting residents soon about its plans and the hospital's new title.

It is expected the hospital will include 40 intermediate care beds and facilities for outpatients, diagnostics and an urgent care centre.

More detailed plans should be available by the end of the summer.

The community hospital is not due to be completed until 2011 at the earliest.
