Detective Inspector Ollie Stride, investigating said: “This is a deeply sad case and we are continuing to establish the circumstances that led to this tragic incident.

“I would like to thank the local community for their cooperation while our officers go about their enquiries.

“Our thoughts today are very much with the family as they struggle to come to terms with their loss and we ask that their privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time.”

Neighbours in the area have said that they did not know the family well and that the family did not interact much with them.

Marion Beazer, 69, has lived in Mayfield Road since 1982.

She said: "We never really knew them, but obviously had seen them coming in and out the house, but we didn't know the personally."

Pooj Kaur, 42, who has lived in the area for two years, said: "It’s shocking really, I’ve lived her for just over two years.

"Never knew the family.

"I usually see the mum taking the kids to school with their car but the morning of the incident the car didn’t move and was on drive.

"So, I thought it was really weird."
