A man has died and a woman has been taken to hospital following a fatal crash in Sutton this morning (March 6).
Police and ambulance were called to the scene of a crash involving a car on Banstead Road at around 7am and the road remains closed.
The driver of the car, a man in his early 50s, was found in a life-threatening condition.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after and enquiries are ongoing to notify his next of kin.
The passenger, a woman in her 40s, was taken to hospital in a condition not thought to be life-threatening.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 7.03am on Monday, March 6 to reports of a collision involving a car on Banstead Road, Sutton.
“Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade.
“The driver of the car, a man in his early 50s, was found in a life threatening condition.
“Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died at the scene a short time later.
“Enquiries are ongoing to notify his next of kin.
“The passenger, a woman aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital.
“Her condition is not currently believed to be life-threatening.
“Road closures and a scene are currently in place.”
