Bexley Council has announced that three roads in the borough will close at various points over the next three weeks while resurfacing work is done.

The work will take place overnight and the roads involved are Erith High Street, Bexley Road and Wharfside Close.

To minimise disruption the works will take place on weeknights, Monday to Friday only, and in three stages, with road closures and signed diversions in place from 7pm to 2am.

Stage one - Erith High Street closure: Monday, February 27 to Friday, March 3.

Erith High Street will be closed to through traffic between Walnut Tree Road and Wharfside Close.

Traffic will be diverted via West Street, Lower Road, Bronze Age Way, Queens Road, James Watt Way, Erith High Street, Pier Road, Colebrook Street and Wharfside Close.

Access for residents in Erith High Street and Saltford Close will be maintained but will be controlled by a traffic marshal with traffic held until it is safe to move through.

Access will be either from Walnut Tree Road or Wharfside Close depending on the stage the works is at.

Erith High Street will be made two-way temporarily to enable this.

Stage two - Bexley Road closure: Monday, March 6 to Wednesday, March 8.

Bexley Road will be closed to through traffic between Wharfside Close and Cross Street.

Main traffic will be diverted via Wharfside Close, Colebrook Street, Pier Road, Erith High Street, James Watt Way and Queens Road.

Local traffic will be diverted via Wharfside Close, Colebrook Street, Pier Road, Erith High Street, Queen Street, Elrick Close, through the car park and Cross Street.

Stage three - Wharfside Close closure: Thursday, March 9 to Friday, March 10.

Wharfside Close will be closed between Bexley Road and Colebrook Street.

Traffic will be diverted via Bexley Road, Queens Road, James Watt Way, Erith High Street, Pier Road and Colebrook Street.

Resident's access to Wharfside Close will be maintained but will be controlled by a traffic marshal and traffic will be held until it is safe to move through.

The resurfacing work schedule is dependent on good weather conditions and is subject to change.

So far as is practical, noisy operations such as removing the existing road surface will end around 11pm and other works no later than 2am.
