A man, 19, is still fighting for his life after being rushed to hospital by ambulance following a stabbing in Woolwich.

The stabbing happened in Mayplace Lane at around 12am yesterday (February 26) and police have confirmed today that the man still remains in a life-threatening condition.

London Ambulance Service sent an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, medics in two fast response cars and an incident response officer as well as dispatching an air ambulance.

They treated one person at the scene before taking them to hospital as a priority.

Two males were arrested nearby on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in custody at a south London police station.

Police enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and there are a number of crime scenes in place.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 and quote reference CAD 10/26Feb.

Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A Section 60 was in place until 11pm last night (February 27).

It gives officers additional stop and search powers to prevent further violence in the area. 

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:“We were called at 12.00am yesterday (26 February) to reports of a stabbing on Mayplace Lane, Woolwich.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, medics in two fast response cars and an incident response officer.

“We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance by car.

“Our first medics arrived in less than five minutes.

“We treated one person at the scene before taking them to hospital as a priority.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at approximately 00:05hrs on Sunday, 26 February to reports of a stabbing in Mayplace Lane, SE18.
