KEEN historians have attended the unveiling of two plaques dating back to the 1900s.
The plaques at Gravesend Library, Windmill Street, Gravesend, were originally unveiled on September 28, 1905.
This was when eight-times mayor of Gravesend George Matthews Arnold opened the library.
Both plaques were put in storage at Gravesend Museum but have been put back on display to mark the centenary of the former mayor's death in 1908.
More than 40 people turned up to mark the unveiling of the plaques.
They also looked at a display of memorabilia about Mr Arnold, including scrapbooks and pictures. Gravesend Libraries district manager Chris Bull, who organised the event, said: "It was a highly successful and very original event which celebrated Gravesend's greatest Victorian and a man whose influence can still be seen in the borough 100 years after his death.
"The unique thing about the plaques is he would have unveiled them himself when he was alive in 1905."
