RESIDENTS in north Kent have until July 4 to nominate people who help make their community safer for an award.

PCSOs, special constables, Neighbourhood Watch volunteers and wardens can be nominated for the north Kent category of the Kent Police Authority Safer Kent Awards 2008.

The area winner will get a trophy as well as £250 towards a community project and have a chance of winning the county award, which has a prize of £500.

An awards ceremony will be held at Leeds Castle in September.

Kent Police Authority chairman Ann Barnes said: "People are so quick to judge and never really take a step back and realise some individuals or groups are making a positive difference to the quality of our lives.

"So please take this opportunity and put someone forward for a Safer Kent Award."
