THIS year's Danson Festival promises to be bigger and glitzier than ever - with music and fun to suit every taste and age.

The annual free festival attracts thousands of people to enjoy two days of music and attractions from dragon boat racing and water sports sessions to zones devoted to gardening and the environment.

At the heart of this year's festival, being held in Danson Park, Welling, on July 5 and July 6, will be the multicultural arts village.

Its centrepiece will be an Earth Carnival parade and theatre spectacular designed to kick-start the Cultural Olympiad celebrations in the borough.

This will include a giant mechanical phoenix, puppets, dance and borough mascots.

The arts village will also offer a dance stage featuring local dancers and dance groups, workshops, displays and arts and crafts activities.

There will also be walkabout theatre performances by young people who have been learning street art and theatre skills at the Streets Art Academy, run by street theatre company Emergency Arts Exit.
