Four people have been arrested after a “large” fight broke out in Lewisham.

The incident between groups of school children happened in Lewisham High Street at 4pm on January 31.

Officers from Mounted Branch and the Territorial Support Group attended the scene due to the number of people present.

Three officers and a schoolgirl were reportedly assaulted and a motorbike was also left damaged.

A woman and three men were arrested on suspicion of assault on police and violent disorder.

They were taken into police custody and later released on bail pending further enquires.

Police enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at around 16.00hrs on Tuesday, 31 January to reports of a large fight between groups of school children in Lewisham High Street.

“Officers attended the scene to discover a large group of school children involved in violent disorder.

“Due to the number of people present, further officers, along with colleagues from Mounted Branch and the Territorial Support Group attended the scene in an attempt to bring the incident under control.

“Three officers and a local schoolgirl were assaulted during the incident, and some property - including a motorbike - was damaged.

“Three males and a female were arrested on suspicion of assault on police and violent disorder.

“All were taken into custody and later released on bail pending further inquiries. Next due on a date in late February.

“After some time the crowd dispersed. Officers remained in the area to prevent any further incidents of disorder.

“Inquiries into the incident continue. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 4516/31Jan.”
