FIREFIGHTERS have been called back to a Forest Hill substation which caught fire on Sunday and caused power problems for thousands of people.

The crews are at the substation at the junction of Sydenham Park Road and Sydenham Park working to cool down the oil reservoir.

It is still very hot after Sunday's incident so they have been there since about 7.30pm yesterday (June 9).

An EDF Energy spokesman said: "Nothing has overheated at the substation.

"Rather, London Fire Brigade returns from time to time, using thermal imaging equipment, to monitor the falling temperature, so we know when the temperature is low enough for us to begin work to replace the transformer which is out of action.

"Because of the very high temperatures that the transformer was exposed to, it takes several days for it to fully cool down."

  • The blaze on Sunday left thousands of EDF Energy customers without electricity in the Lewisham, Bromley, Catford, Forest Hill and Sydenham areas.

Traffic lights were also affected by the power cut.
