Two people have been taken to hospital after a police chase which led to a crash in Woolwich.

Officers attempted to stop a suspected stolen car today (January 18) and issued a pursuit after the driver failed to stop.

Three men, inside the car, were shortly after found involved in a crash in Thorntree Road at 1.05pm.

They were all treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.

Two of them were taken to hospital for further treatment.

The trio were then arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. 

Their injuries were assessed as not life-threatening and they have since been discharged to custody. 

Road closures were put in place but have since reopened.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called today (18 January) at 1:05pm to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction between Wolfe Crescent and Thorntree Road, Charlton.

“We sent an incident response officer, a medic in a fast-response car, and two ambulance crews to the scene.

“We treated three people at the scene, before taking two of them to hospital.”

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At 12:51hrs on Wednesday, 18 January, officers in a marked patrol car attempted to stop a suspect stolen car in Woolwich.

“The driver failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised. 

“The car was involved in a collision at the junction of Wolfe Crescent and Thorntree Road.

“Three men, who had been inside the car, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. 

“Two of the men were taken to hospital. Their injuries were assessed as not life-threatening and they have since been discharged to custody.

“The road was closed while officers arranged for the car to be recovered and re-opened at around 14:20hrs. Enquiries are ongoing.”
