New data released by the NHS shows the number of women known to be smokers during their pregnancies across the UK.

South east London has some of the lowest numbers, while south west London has some of the highest.

Between April and June last year, the percentage of women known to be smokers when their babies were delivered in south east London was 4.7 per cent.

In south west London this figure was 6.1 per cent.

This means that in south east London, among the 4,795 deliveries recorded by the NHS, 225 of these people were known to be smokers at their time of delivery.

In south west London though, of the 2,492 babies delivered, 145 were to mothers who were known to smokers.

This makes south west London the region of the city with the highest number of women known to be smokers during their pregnancies.

The part of London with the lowest percentage is north west London where only 3.6 per cent of women were known to be smokers at the time that they gave birth.
