Ravensbourne Secondary School in Bromley is closed after reports of a gas leak forced students and staff to stay at home.

On January 10 the parents of students at Ravensbourne School received an email informing them that a gas leak had been reported and the school would be shut until the issue had been resolved.

One parent, wishing to remain anonymous, said: “We got an email at around 7pm on Tuesday telling us the school had a gas leak and would be closed and we’ve been getting updates via email every day since.”

Ravensbourne School said that Scotia Gas Networks is working to repair the leak and ensure the premises is safe before the school reopens to students.

As a result, the school advised parents that the premises would remain closed for the rest of the week.

A statement on the school website read: “Teams of contractors from Scotia Gas Networks are working around the clock to repair the gas leak and make the gas infrastructure safe again, to allow us to reopen as soon as possible.

“Unfortunately, the contractors have experienced some additional challenges with the works, resulting in additional time required to resolve the gas leak.

“Due to the nature of the works still required, we are not able to have students back on site tomorrow, Friday 13 January.”
