Rubbish outside a block of flats in Erith which wasn't collected for "over three weeks" has been branded a "disgrace" by residents.

A man living in the block opposite Elizabeth Court in Stelling Road has watched the rubbish pile grow after the communal bin was not emptied.

He said the bins in his block are emptied every week, but not the one's opposite him.

He told the News Shopper: "It's a disgrace.

"It must be a health and safety issue as people and kids walk past this every day."

A spokesperson for Bexley Council has apologised for the delay and said it was due to the adverse weather conditions last week.

This is the only site to have been missed and it is in the process of being cleared, according to the council.

In a picture sent to the News Shopper, dozens of black bin bags and other rubbish has piled up outside the block.

It seems there are around six communal bins, all of which are full and overflowing.

The full statement from Bexley Council said: "We apologise for the delay in this collection which was due to the adverse weather last week.

"We have visited the site and checked all of the bin-stores in the locality and this was the only site to have been missed.

"Countrystyle have sent a caged tipper to clear the excess and will be sending another vehicle to empty the bins.

"We have also been in touch with Orbit Housing Officers with a request for any fly tipping to be cleared away.

"Following last week’s disruption our waste and recycling collections are returning to normal more information here - www.bexley.gov.uk/severe-weather."
