Bromley’s Christmas lights will be turned on by the England football star Alessia Russo.

Alessia, who was born in Kent and went to school in Maidstone, played a pivotal role in the Lionnesses' Euros triumph and is best known for winning the hearts of the nation with her unforgettable backheeled goal in the semi-final against Sweden.

Alessia will switch on the lights with the winner of Bromley’s Local Hero competition, who will also receive her prizes.

Alessia said: “I can’t wait to come to Bromley and turn on the Christmas lights.

“It has been such a special year, and this feels like a really great way to celebrate it.”

The lights switch-on event will start at 12pm and feature performances from arts schools, music bands and comedians.

Later in the day, the festive quintet The Belles will sing before making way for Alessia and the Christmas countdown.

“The Lionesses were an inspiration to us all over the summer, and it feels really fitting that we have one of England’s heroines coming to help start the Bromley Christmas celebrations this year.”

Bands performing include Subtle Hustle and Bromley’s very own Got Talent winner Oliver Anderson.

Comedian Lloyd Hallet, best known for appearing in The Churchill Theatre performance of Jack and the Beanstalk, will also be making a special appearance.
