TWO people have been taken to hospital after a flat fire in East Dulwich.
The fire broke out in Upland Road just after 8.50pm yesterday.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled the blaze.
A part of a flat in the basement of an end-of-terrace block of flats was damaged by the fire.
Two people were assessed for smoke inhalation on the scene by London Ambulance Service crews.
They were taken to hospital for further treatment.
The fire was under control just after 10pm.
Fire crews from Peckham, New Cross, Forest Hill, and Brixton fire stations were called to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters tackled a flat fire on Upland Road in East Dulwich.
“Part of a flat in the basement of an end-of-terrace block of flats was damaged by the fire.
“One resident left the building before crews arrived, and another resident was led to safety from the second floor via an internal staircase by breathing apparatus crews using fire escape hoods.
“Both residents were assessed by London Ambulance Service for smoke inhalation and taken to hospital.
“The Brigade was called at 8.52pm and the fire was under control by 10.05pm.
“Fire crews from Peckham, New Cross, Forest Hill, and Brixton fire stations were at the scene.
“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
