A cyclist has been rushed to hospital after a crash with a lorry in Eltham.

The incident happened in Westhorne Avenue at 9.15am today (October 5).

Police, London Ambulance Service paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance were called to the scene.

An ambulance crew, two medics in fast response cars, and an incident response officer also attended.

The male cyclist was found with injuries to his leg and chest. 

He was taken to a major trauma centre with possible life-changing injuries.

Road closures have been put in place. 

No arrests have been made following the incident.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “We were called at 9.15am on Wednesday, 5 October to reports of a road traffic collision in Westhorne Avenue, near Horsfeld Road, SE9.

“Officers, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended and found a cyclist in collision with a lorry.

“The cyclist has been taken to hospital with possible life-changing injuries.

“Road closures are in place. No arrests have been made.”    

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 9.18am today (5 October) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a cyclist in Westhorne Avenue, Eltham.

“We sent a number of resources including an ambulance crew, two medics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and we also dispatched medics from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a man for leg and chest injuries and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre.”
