The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms today across London as heavy rain is set to batter the capital.

The warning has been in place since midnight and ends at 3pm today.

The Met Office has said that thunderstorms and heavy rain will cause some disruption.

This includes driving conditions, delays to train services, and possibly some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning.

The Met Office added that some flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely, as well as some short term loss of power.

Today:

Outbreaks of heavy rain for many areas will clear slowly east through the morning and early afternoon, tending to ease. Sunny spells developing across western parts and feeling warmer here with light winds. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Tonight:

Any remaining rain in the far east clearing into the evening to become dry and largely clear overnight. Mist and fog patches possible into the early hours in rural spots. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

Any early morning mist patches clearing to leave good sunny spells on Friday. Generally dry but an isolated shower possible later in the day as cloud tends to thicken. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday bright with a small chance of afternoon showers in places. Sunday and Monday becoming predominantly dry with sunny spells. Temperatures near normal.
