A manhas been taken to hospital after a shooting in Greenwich - as armed police are on the scene.

London's Air Ambulance has confirmed that this is the nature of the serious incident happening in Creek Road between Greenwich Town Centre and Deptford.

The air ambulance was dispatched just after 2.45pm.

After treatment on scene, a man was taken by road to a major trauma hospital.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 2:42pm today (5 August) to reports of a shooting in Creek Road, Greenwich.

“We sent a number of resources including an ambulance crew, an advanced paramedic, a motorcycle paramedic, a medic in a fast response car and an incident response officer, and we also dispatched medics from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated a man at the scene and took him as a priority to a major trauma centre.”

A London Air Ambulance spokesperson said: "Our advanced trauma team was dispatched via aircraft by London Ambulance Service at 1447 today to reports of a shooting in the Greenwich area.

"After treatment on scene the patient was transferred by road to a major trauma hospital accompanied by London’s Air Ambulance.” 

Greenwich police tweeted: "We are responding to a serious incident in #Greenwich.

"Armed officers are on the scene.

"We will provide further updates when we can."

Greenwich West Police tweeted: "Serious incident on Creek Road between Greenwich Town Centre and Deptford.

"Road closed.

"Please avoid the area.

"More details to follow."
