London Ambulance Service has released a statement after a man died in a crash in Thamesmead this morning.

The service was called to the one-car crash in Eastern Way at 10.58am.

A car had overturned and stopped on its side down an embankment.

The first ambulance medic arrived at the scene in less than six minutes.

An ambulance crew, two paramedics in response cars, an incident response officer and members of the hazardous area response team were sent to the scene.

London's Air Ambulance was also dispatched.

A man in his 40s died just after 11.45am.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10:58am today (29 July) to reports of a road traffic collision on Eastern Way, Erith.

“We sent an ambulance crew, two paramedics in response cars, an incident response officer, and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

"We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under six minutes. Sadly, a man died at the scene.”

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 10:56hrs on Friday, 29 July to reports of a car overturned at Eastern Way, SE28.

"Officers, London’s Air Ambulance [HEMS] and London Ambulance Service [LAS] attended.

"At the scene a vehicle had overturned and come to a stop on its side down an embankment.

"At the scene a man, aged 40s, was found injured.

"Despite the efforts of HEMS medic the man sadly died at the scene at 11:46hrs.

"Enquiries are underway to notify next of kin.

"Road closures and cordons remain in place while emergency services deal with the scene.

"No other vehicles are thought to have been involved in the collision.

"Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dash-cam footage should call police on 101 quoting 2571/29JUL."
