A CARPENTRY workshop in an industrial unit has been left damaged after a fire in Sydenham.

The fire broke out in Bell Green Lane just after 11.30pm yesterday (July 27).

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze.

A part of a mid-terraced carpentry workshop was damaged by the fire.

Seven cylinders containing gas and adhesive were found and cooled to an ambient temperature.

These were removed as a precaution as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was under control by 1.15am.

Fire crews from Forest Hill, Beckenham, Lewisham, Bromley and West Norwood fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved the ventilation system in the building.
