Two people have been arrested after youths damaged a police car and threw road signs at officers in Lewisham.

Police were called to reports of disturbance amongst youths attending an event in Baring Road yesterday (July 26) just after 8.30pm.

Officers attended and the event soon was shut down due to the behaviour of attendees.

Although the attendees were told the event would not be continuing, police say a significant number of youths refused to leave.

Items, including road signs, were thrown at police officers.

Police cars and cars belonging to members of the public were also climbed on and damaged.

Police were then given extra powers to issue a dispersal order.

The crowd had dispersed by 12.25am earlier this morning (July 27).

Two people were arrested and taken to a south London police station.

Local officers remained in the area throughout the night to provide reassurance to the community.
