MPs across south east London have been calling for Boris Johnson to leave No.10 following a string of resignations from ministers and aides – and now he has officially stepped down.
Johnson’s resignation comes after a series of scandals, most recently being his promotion of Chris Pincher who is now facing allegations of sexual misconduct.
We’ve gathered together the statements and views from all the politicians representing us in south east London to find out whether they thought Johnson should have resigned.
Bromley
The Conservative MP for Bromley and Chislehurst, Sir Bob Neill, has been outspoken in his view that Boris Johnson should have left office far sooner than he has.
Sir Neill told the News Shopper: “I’m pleased that Boris is apparently going to leave, but it’s pretty deplorable that he’s had to be dragged out the door kicking and screaming.”
He added that Johnson must not stay on as a caretaker Prime Minister as he believes this will cause more damage to the party and the country.

Bexley
Sir David Evennett, the Conservative MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, praised Johnson’s “many successes” but said that he felt now was the right time for him to go.
It is right and in the interests of our country, and having lost the confidence of Conservative colleagues in the House of Commons, including myself, that the PM is resigning today. Despite his many successes, the events of the past few months have necessitated this outcome

His colleague from Old Bexley and Sidcup, Louie French, has been much stronger in his position regarding the now ex-Prime Minister.
French said: “As the first homegrown MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup, the trust and views of local people is of the utmost importance to me.
“I believe that the Prime Minister’s position is unsustainable and that he should resign.”

Abena Oppong Asare, the Labour MP for Erith and Thamesmead, has retweeted posts declaring the entire Conservative party unfit to govern this country.
Greenwich
Matthew Pennycook, Labour MP for Greenwich and Woolwich, called for Johnson to resign yesterday after the Levelling-Up Committee were unable to sit due to not having enough ministers left.
Since Boris has resigned, Pennycook has labelled him “graceless and unapologetic to the end.”
He added: “We don’t need a shuffling of deckchairs – we need real change under a Labour government.”

His fellow Labour MP for Eltham, Clive Efford, has retweeted posts in agreement with this.
Lewisham
All three of the MPs in the borough of Lewisham are from the Labour party.
Janet Daby, from Lewisham East, said that Boris Johnson could not be trusted or believed, whilst Vicky Foxcroft, from Lewisham Deptford, retweeted a post claiming that Labour are better suited for government.
Ellie Reeves, representing Lewisham West and Penge, accused Conservative Ministers of gaslighting victims of sexual assault.

It seems that all the MPs in south east London, no matter their party, are united in their agreement that Boris Johnson was right to have resigned as Prime Minister.
