A 17-year-old boy from Dartford has been arrested following a motorbike theft in Medway.

Last Sunday at around 10am, the victim of a motorbike theft contacted police to report the incident.

It was reported that two people pulled up alongside the bike on a moped, which was parked outside on Magpie Hall Road in Chatham.

One person got off the moped and reportedly jumped on the motorbike to steal it.

Both riders then fled the scene.

Kent Police attended the scene before tracking the stolen bike for an hour, where it was eventually found in Hill Rise, Dartford.

Police chased and caught a 17-year-old boy from Swanscombe who matched the description of one of the suspects.

The moped that was used in the theft was also identified to be stolen.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of both of the bikes but has since been released pending further investigation.

Both vehicles have since been returned to their rightful owners.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Quick work from officers at Kent Police led to the recovery of two stolen motorbikes and the arrest of a suspect.

“On Sunday 29 May 2022 at around 10am, the victim of a stolen motorbike in Chatham reported the incident to police.

“It was alleged that two people on a moped pulled up alongside the motorbike, which was parked outside a residential property near to Magpie Hall Road.

“One person was seen getting off the moped and then stealing the motorbike before both riders fled the scene.

“Officers attended the area immediately and the stolen bike was tracked for around an hour, where it was eventually located in Hill Rise, Dartford.

“A foot chase ensued and police caught a 17-year-old boy who matched the description of one of the suspects. As well as the motorbike, they also recovered the moped which was identified as stolen.

“Both vehicles have been returned to their rightful owners.

“The boy from Swanscombe was arrested on suspicion of the theft of both bikes and has since been released pending further investigation.”
