A shopper has told of her shock and fury over the difference in prices on certain items in two Asda stores only half-a-mile apart in Bexleyheath.

Ms. Green, from Bexleyheath, said she noticed a difference in prices between the stores in Crook Log and in Graham Road while she was shopping last month.

The Crook Log store is branded as an Asda Supermarket, whereas the Graham Road store is branded as an Asda Superstore.

The shopper said she was shocked after having to pay more money in the supermarket branch, despite the stores being so close together.

The 54-year-old told the News Shopper that the price difference is a “sly policy” which gives “no transparency” to unsuspecting customers like herself.

Ms. Green said: “Customers have no idea that they are paying a premium for shopping at the smaller store when they can pay less just half a mile away.

“I also know that Sainsbury Local and Tesco Express stores have different pricing.

“But these stores are different brands from the main Sainsburys and Tesco, hence customers know their pricing often differs.”

Ms. Green said that Asda should take responsibility to be clear with its customers if it is implementing such a policy.

She then wrote a complaint to Asda explaining her frustration over the price differences of certain items between the two stores.

Ms. Green explained: “There is no indication that they would charge different regular prices for the same products.

“Sadly, they shrugged off my observation.

“I believe people should be made aware, especially as the cost of living starts to really put the squeeze on customers.

“It took me months to discover that the Asda Price as per their slogan might not actually be the one you are charged.”

The shopper said Asda should advertise to explain that customers are potentially being charged more money for certain items.

Ms. Green explained: “There’s nothing on Asda’s terms and conditions to say that certain items at smaller stores may be higher compared to the bigger ones.

“I did find that Asda makes it clear that price differences may change in regional stores.

“So why can’t they do the same when it comes to this?

“Asda should either make the prices equal at both stores or make the customers aware of such a policy.”
