Thames Water has confirmed that a burst pipe repair which caused water to shoot out of the pavement and flood a road in Bromley is now complete.

In a video posted on Twitter at around 4.30pm on Tuesday, water could be seen shooting out of the pavement causing floods in Hayes Lane.

Firefighters and Thames Water flocked to the scene.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said the flooding was to a depth of between three and six inches.

It affected a number of houses and firefighters redirected water away from these.

After the flow of water from the burst was stopped, Thames Water rerouted the network to bring customers back into supply on Wednesday.

Thames Water said the repair was then completed earlier this morning (Thursday).

Thames Water apologised to customers in the area who experienced no water or lower pressure than normal while the incident occured.

A tweet from a passer-by at the scene advised people to "avoid" Hayes Lane, and said Thames Water needed to "get on the site as soon as possible".

A spokesperson from Thames Water said: "I can confirm that the repair to the burst pipe on Hayes Lane was completed earlier this morning.

"After we stopped the flow of water from the burst, we rerouted our network to bring customers back into supply yesterday afternoon.

"We’re sorry to customers in the area who experienced no water or lower pressure than normal yesterday."

At the time of the incident, a spokesperson for London Frie Brigade said: "There are two fire engines and around 10 firefighters at the scene of a burst water main in Hayes Lane, Bromley which has caused flooding to a depth of between three and six inches and has affected a number of properties.

"Crews are working to redirect water away from affected properties.
