BARCLAYS has confirmed the permanent closure of its branch in Sidcup.

The British bank company will close its doors in Sidcup High Street on August 10 at noon.

It comes as Barclays revealed that only 265 customers use the Sidcup branch for banking.

The bank has considered which other branches can be used nearby before deciding on the closure of any branch.

Other ways such as how many bankers visit a branch and the transactions made are also reviewed.

Barclays announced that 84 per cent of Sidcup customers now use online and telephone banking.

Figures also show that 27 per cent of Sidcup bankers have been using other branches in the past year.

The nearest Barclays branches for Sidcup bankers are 7 High Street in Chislehurst and 131 Eltham High Street.

There will be no redundancies after the closure of the branch.

Everyday transactions can also be completed at any Post Office with the nearest located at 170 Halfway Street in Sidcup.

A spokesperson for Barclays said: "The decision to close a branch is never an easy one.

"However, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking.

"As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.

"This is reflected at the Sidcup branch where there has been a 21 per cent reduction in counter transactions in the two years to March 2020.

"In addition, 84 per cent of our customers at the branch are also using different ways to bank.

“We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required.”
