A far-right London election candidate said a British Black Lives Matter activist who was shot in the head at a party should be deported.

Sasha Johnson was injured in May 2021 after being hit by a bullet at a house party in Peckham.

Ms Johnson has lost an eye and movement down one side of her body.

The campaigner was still in intensive care as of March.

Following the shooting, Nick Scanlon of Britain First – a Greenwich candidate in next month’s local elections – appeared to call for her to be “remigrated” in a now-deleted tweet.

He added “right wingers wishing her a speedy recovery is quite frankly, pathetic.”

Mr Scanlon’s tweet was published on May 24, 2021, the day after Ms Johnson is believed to have been shot.

The anti-racism campaign group Hope Not Hate found previous tweets by Mr Scanlon through internet archive searches.

He is standing as the candidate for far-right Britain First in the ward of Eltham Page at the elections on Thursday.

In another unearthed tweet, Mr Scanlon said that the supposed “Africanization of our cities” needed to be resisted following reports of violence at screenings of Blue Story.

The 2019 film about London gang violence reportedly sparked a series of incidents at VUE cinemas, causing the company to stop screening the film.

In response to the news, Mr Scanlon tweeted: “You can ban as many knives & films as you wish.

"The reality is nothing is going to change until the primitive culture which has been bought to our shores & allowed to flourish is #remigrated from our once tranquil and harmonious nation.

"Resist the Africanization of our cities!”

Gregory Davis, a researcher at Hope Not Hate, said: “Nick Scanlon is an extremist who has cycled through multiple far-right organisations, including the BNP and Generation Identity.

"His selection by Britain First totally undermines their flimsy denials of racism.”

The Local Democracy Reporting Service have contacted Nick Scanlon for comment.

Responding to the allegations made by Hope Not Hate, Britain First’s leader Paul Golding said: “The political Left tries to brand everyone who disagrees with them as a racist.

"Our candidate is a working class, patriotic citizen who is fed up with the politicians in this country.

"Groups like Hope Not Hate, who are under Met Police investigation for criminal wrong-doing, regularly try and smear anyone who stands against the Old-Gang politicians.”

He added of Ms Johnson: “Sasha Johnson publicly stated she wants white people to be her slaves. She is a vile person.”

Fact-checking organisation Politifact has said that claim is not true, and the tweet was sent by a fake account.

On Mr Golding’s claim that Hope Not Hate was under police investigation, Mr Davis said: “Britain First and fellow far-right thug Tommy Robinson have apparently filed a spurious complaint with the police about Hope not Hate, in a desperate effort to intimidate.”
