A fire broke out at a tenth-floor flat this morning in Greenwich

Firefighters were called to River Gardens Walk shortly after 8am today (May 1).

The Brigade tackled the fire at a block of flats where a part of a balcony was also alight.

Two women left the flat before the arrival of the Brigade. 

There are no reports of any injuries at this stage.

The fire was under control shortly before 9.15am.

Fire crews from Deptford, New Cross, Poplar, Peckham and surrounding stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a fire in a block of flats  in River Gardens Walk, Greenwich. 

"Part of a balcony and a flat on the 10th floor were damaged by fire. 

"Two women left the flat before crews arrived.

"There are no reports of any injuries at this stage.  

"The Brigade was called at 8.05am and the fire was under control by 9.13am.

"Fire crews from Deptford, New Cross, Poplar, Peckham and surrounding stations were at the scene. 

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
